Investigations and Prosecutions (TRIP)
Beyond the Status Quo
Beginning with the Complexities of Sexual Assault
Sexual Assault and Rape can be the most difficult and complicated crime types to successfully investigate from initial report to prosecution, some common issues:
-Reported victims are often highly traumatized and trauma can impact behavior that is often misunderstood by Criminal Justice professionals and first responders.
-Our understanding of sex offenders is rooted in older ideas that do not take cross-over studies into consideration.
-Male victims do not often report
-It is very difficult to investigate sexual assaults and involve alcohol and other drugs.
Traumatic and/or high stress experiences can impact the human ability to articulate and to participate with the criminal justice and other first responding systems making it essential to shift from current practices toward a model that is trauma responsive. The trip method has been developed to assist professionals in response, corroboration, documentation and investigation & prosecution of cases involving potential high stress and trauma.
